Karma Charities

The word "karma" is derived from the Sanskrit root kri, meaning 'to do'.  In its most basic sense karma means action. The word 'yoga' translates to union or connection.  Thus karma yoga is building connection through action.  This is often described as "selfless service" and is a way of acting, thinking or being dedicated to the well-being of others.

Every Friday at 8:30pm, Moksha Yoga Victoria offers a Karma Yoga class.  This 60-minute Moksha class is pay-what-you-can (minimum $7) with 100% of the proceeds directed towards charitable activities.

New Leaf Yoga

The New Leaf Yoga Foundation was created by Laura Sygrove (Moksha instructor) and Jessica Robertson (co-founder of Moksha Yoga) with a vision to put the Moksha idea of accessibility into practice.  The goal of the organization is to encourage individuals to turn over a new leaf in life through the practices of yoga and meditation and by fostering a commitment to nonviolent, compassionate engagement with themselves and with others.

In the future the organization will expand to make these practices available to other under-serviced communities across Canada, including people living in shelters, recovering from addictions and living in poverty.
